About Us
I have always been passionate about cake design and decorating and have made numerous cakes for friends, family and work colleagues over the years. My first wedding cake was for my own wedding many years ago. After attending a sugarcraft exhibition at Jewel and Esk Valley College I was blown away by what could be achieved in sugar and inspired to develop my skills further. Over the next few years I completed several City & Guilds courses at the college. Following a career in financial services, in 2012 I set up Blueberry cakes turning my passion into a business.
I live in the south of Edinburgh with my husband Stuart who helps with deliveries and just loves doing the dishes and emergency runs for supplies!
I continue to develop my skills and keep up to date with new techniques and trends in cake design and decoration. I have taken several formal classes with industry experts Carlos Lischetti, Lindy Smith and Alyson Reynolds. I am a member of The British Sugarcraft Guild and attend demonstrations and workshops from guest demonstrators. I also love attending exhibitions such as Cake International in Birmingham where I invariably buy too much!
In 2016 I was involved in a project with The British Sugarcraft Guild in the reconstruction of the Queen’s Wedding Cake which had been vandalised.
Awards
Whilst completing my City & Guilds qualifications I was awarded the college prize for the Sugar Flowers course. I have also won international medals at Salon Culinaire in London and The British Sugarcraft Guild International Exhibition, Telford.
